Calliditas is a commercial stage biopharmaceutical company focused on identifying, developing and commercializing novel treatments in orphan indications, with an initial focus on renal and hepatic diseases with significant unmet medical needs.
Calliditas’ lead product, developed under the name Nefecon, has been granted accelerated approval by the FDA under the trade name TARPEYO®, conditional marketing authorization by the European Commission under the trade name KINPEYGO® and by China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) Nefecon®. TARPEYO, KINPEYGO® and Nefecon® are the first and only treatments approved for IgA nephropathy. Calliditas also has a pipeline in orphan-focused indications. Calliditas is conducting a Phase 2b/3 clinical trial in primary biliary cholangitis and a Phase 2 proof-of-concept trial in head and neck cancer with its NOX inhibitor product candidate, Setanaxib.

Position summary
As a Commercial Business Controller at Calliditas Therapeutics, you will play a key role in our company’s financial success. You will be responsible for functioning as a Business Partner for our US Commercial team and optimizing our financial operations, enhancing our internal controls, and driving business process improvements in our US legal entities. You have a great understanding of the relationship between the financial and operational side of the business. With a strong strategic mindset and understanding of business and process flows, you can identify areas for improvement and communicate and manage stakeholders to ensure we optimize our resources throughout the business.

This position will be based in the Manhattan office on a hybrid schedule (3 days a week in the office) reporting to the Head of Business Control based in Stockholm, Sweden, with a dotted line to the President North America.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Work closely with the US Commercial Organization and be a Business Partner with financial and operational data, KPIs, analyses, trends, and insights.
- Budget, forecast, and follow-up responsibility of US legal entities within the Commercial organization.
- Management Reporting, you will contribute to all parts of the processes, from data collection to writing and present management reports.
- Support the team and other departments with ad-hoc analyses and participate in different business cases.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify and evaluate potential risks within the US Commercial Organization.
- Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Business control processes.
Education and experience requirements
To be successful in this role, you have a strong analytical and strategic mindset with an interest in the business and process flow improvements both financial and operational. Your approach to problem-solving is proactive and innovative. You are a responsible and structured person with strong collaboration skills. You have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Pharmaceutical experience and strongly prefer a rare disease and/or highly specialized therapy knowledge, including understanding of the patient services model and SP distribution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in Business control, or related roles, with a proven track record of successfully implementing Business control frameworks and driving process improvements.
- In-depth knowledge of financial and commercial operational processes, Budgeting/Forecasting, Management Reporting, Business control principles, and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modelling and data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication & presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Domestic and internationally travels may be required approx. 10%

The anticipated salary range for this role is $210k-240k We encourage candidates of all levels to apply. The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity and location.
